  • Developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), ISO / TS 16949 is the world’s leading automotive standard. It combines a series of quality standards for auto manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in a single certification. ISO/TS 16949:2009 is applicable to sites of a client where customer-specified production parts and/or service parts are manufactured, this include finishing services such as heat treating, welding, painting etc.

  • ISO 9002 is an umbrella term that refers to a standard developed and published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The last version of this standard is ISO 9002:1994; generally organizations referring to themselves as being ISO 9002 certified are referring to this current version of the standard. The ISO 9002 family has now been revised by the ISO 9001 family.

ISO 9002 is a non-industry specific certification.

Certifications are issued by third party certifying bodies and will be issued to the current version of the standard.
  • ISO 14000 - Environmental management

The ISO 14000 family of standards provides practical tools for companies and organizations of all kinds looking to manage their environmental responsibilities.

ISO 14001:2015 and its supporting standards such as ISO 14006:2011 focus on environmental systems to achieve this. The other standards in the family focus on specific approaches such as audits, communications, labelling and life cycle analysis, as well as environmental challenges such as climate change.

ISO 14001:2015

ISO 14001:2015 sets out the criteria for an environmental management system and can be certified to. It maps out a framework that a company or organization can follow to set up an effective environmental management system. It can be used by any organization regardless of its activity or sector.

Using ISO 14001:2015 can provide assurance to company management and employees as well as external stakeholders that environmental impact is being measured and improved.

  • QS 9000 is a company level certification based on quality system requirements related specifically to the automotive industry. These standards were developed by the larger automotive companies including Ford, General Motors and DaimlerChrysler. This standard is obsolete and has been replaced by either ISO/TS 16949 or ISO 9001.

This certification was for organizations in the automotive supply chain.

Organizations that wanted to become certified to the current version of QS9000 would need to complete an application, undergo a document review and certification audit. Once the certification was received, annual or regularly scheduled audits would be conducted to verify continued compliance to the standard.
